And where are you with it?
Sometimes you've got the idea and you're trying to build the organisation around it or you've built something that works, but it's starting to become too big for the way you've been doing things. It could be the organisation is growing faster than the culture can keep up and the leadership team is asking different questions about what comes next. And sometimes you simply know that something isn't quite right, even though, on paper, everything looks fine.
The work can take different shapes within these 3 forms depending on what you're building and what you need.
-
When something needs to be built.
You don't need a permanent executive position. You need someone to come in and actually build the organisational infrastructure required for the next stage.
I step in fractionally and work alongside the founder/CEO/leadership team to build what needs to exist.
You don't necessarily need another consultant giving you a report.
You need someone who can sit in the room with you, understand what you're trying to build, and help carry it out.
This could include:
people/culture infrastructure
culture & brand playbook
resource planning
leadership capability
AI implementation
performance management
recruitment
ways of working
onboarding and off boarding
operational systems
If the requirement eventually becomes a full-time role, I help identify and develop the person who should take it forward.
-
When something needs to be carried.
The organisation has someone internally to take responsibility for the culture work.
Rather than simply hiring someone and leaving them alone with it, I help:
identify the right person
shape the role
support the appointment
develop their capability
mentor and challenge them
provide ongoing perspective and resources
help them translate the founder's/organisation's why into practice
The goal is not for me to become the culture leader.
The goal is to help someone become capable of carrying the work themselves.
-
Practical skills of creating movement in a room.
For people who want to develop the practical ability to:
lead difficult conversations
create movement
hold space
explore what's really happening
work with experience
create feedback loops
express themselves with presence
shape culture through the rooms they lead
The form depends on what you're building.
